Valiant Battery (est. 2018) is a leader in off-grid, solar, RV, marine, government and infrastructure battery solutions. As part of this program they offer an extensive line of BlueTooth enable Lithium (LiFePO₄) batteries. As this line of products evolved, they were challenged with having a single mobile App (Android/Apple) that could support this growing segment. In addition, this app needed to be easy to use and have the functionality to compete with their competitor’s Apps.

Based on its successful track record building technology solutions for Valiant Battery, it was a logical choice for Bare to be selected to develop a new Valiant Battery app.

The process started with analyzing various competitor apps and defining what core functionality was needed and what additional features it needed to support in future iterations. In addition, Bare had to determine for each battery type the available data and in which Bluetooth protocol it is being sent. In phase 1, the App had to achieve the following:

• Easily connect via Bluetooth to any smartphone (Android, Apple)
• Monitor the charge status & battery health
• Simultaneously monitor multiple batteries
• Custom name connected batteries for ease of use
• Integrated user manuals

Within the required timeline and below budget, Bare finalized the App that exceeded the client’s initial expectations. In addition, Bare set up an analytics framework to monitor the apps performance, developed a promotional program, and successfully deployed it on the Google and Apple stores.

Leading up to the launch of the tools, Bare created a series of intense and mysterious teaser videos to convey the message that “The Beast is Coming”. Post-launch videos were also produced to show the tool in action and to show off its technical features. The campaign, alongside sales efforts on behalf of the client, resulted in the entire stock of the tool selling out shortly after launch.

I have worked with the Bare team for 15 years so it was an easy decision for me to call on them to create an app for our key product line. We commissioned Bare to create an app for our customers that enables them to monitor their battery’s status and identify potential performance issues. Aside from creating a visually appealing app with a very user friendly interface, they solved a number of technical issues related to connecting with Bluetooth protocols from multiple suppliers.
